Before You Travel

Where is Hamilton Lodge located?

Hamilton Lodge Belalp is located at approximately 2,000 metres above sea level in the car-free mountain village of Belalp. The Lodge is easy to reach from Blatten bei Naters with a beautiful gondola or cable car ride operated by Belalp Bahnen, which takes approximately 8–10 minutes.

What should I enter into my GPS?

If you are arriving by car, enter 3914 Blatten bei Naters into your GPS. Blatten bei Naters is the valley station for the gondola and cable car to Belalp.

Please note that some GPS systems may route you around the mountains, while others may route you through the mountains using Switzerland’s car trains. These car trains are a memorable part of travelling in Switzerland, but they have their own timetables and ticket prices, so please check your route before departure.

Is Belalp car-free?

Yes. Belalp is a car-free mountain village. Guests arriving by car must park in Blatten bei Naters and then take the gondola or cable car up to Belalp.

Arriving by Public Transport

While Blatten b. Naters can be reached by car, we encourage guests to travel by public transport whenever possible. As neighbours of the UNESCO-listed Aletsch Glacier, we believe that preserving this extraordinary alpine environment is a shared responsibility.

Fortunately, reaching Belalp by public transport is both easy and scenic. Brig railway station is well connected within Switzerland and to northern Italy.

Gondola, Cable Car & Luggage

Where can I find the Belalp Bahnen timetable?

We recommend checking the timetable before travelling, especially if you expect to arrive late in the day.

Should I take the gondola or the cable car?

Both the gondola and cable car connect Blatten bei Naters with Belalp. The ride takes approximately 8–10 minutes. The gondola runs throughout the winter season and for special events in the summer season. The cable car runs year-round.

The gondola arrives less than one minute on foot from Hamilton Lodge, making it the easiest option for guests travelling with light luggage. Please note that Belalp Bahnen permits only one handheld piece of luggage per person on the gondola.

Guests travelling with larger amounts of luggage should use the cable car. From the cable car mountain station it is a 5-minute walk to the Lodge.

How does luggage transport work?

Luggage can be brought up to Belalp via either the gondola or the cable car.

If you travel by gondola with one handheld piece of luggage, you can simply carry it to Hamilton Lodge, which is less than one minute from the gondola mountain station.

If you have larger luggage quantities, please use the cable car. You can either bring the luggage up yourself, or rent a luggage rack with Belalp Bahnen and arrange for them to transport it to the cable car mountain station. From there, the Hamilton Lodge team will collect your luggage and deliver it to the Lodge.
